This unit provides an overview of the Victorian and Australian legal environment, including law making bodies, the adjudication and enforcement process, and various aspects of the law and procedures.

VBQU368 Apply investigative processes in a justice environment

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to examine and apply the investigative skills and procedures to conduct an investigation; gather, record and present evidence in a court of law, together with an understanding of the witness responsibilities and privacy and confidentiality issues.

VBQM389 Introduction to criminal justice system

The purpose of this unit is to enable students to develop a working knowledge of the criminal justice system.

VBQU369 Apply research techniques within a justice framework

This unit covers the knowledge and skills required to conduct social research in a community justice environment.

PSPOHS401B Implement workplace health and safety procedures and programs

This unit covers implementation of the organisation’s occupational health and safety policies, procedures and programs by those with supervisory responsibilities, to meet occupational health and safety standards.

VBQU370 Work within the current industrial relations climate

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to examine and apply the industrial relations laws, practices and procedures required to work within a Justice environment.

PSPETHC401A Uphold and support the values and principles of public service

This unit covers the ethical conduct required of those in public service and the responsibility to encourage ethical conduct in others and colleagues or supervised staff. It includes contributing to an ethical public sector workplace and participating in ethical decision making.

VBQU372 Apply oral and written communication skills in a justice environment

This unit covers the development and application of oral and written communication skills required within the justice environment.

VBQU373 Implement the mediation process in a justice environment

This unit covers the competency required to communicate and develop skills required for the mediation process and to assist clients in their roles and responsibilities in the mediation process.

VBQU374 Apply principles and practices of management and leadership in a justice environment

This unit covers the knowledge and skills required to deal effectively with the issues of management in a justice environment. It includes the theories, principles and practices of management.

This unit covers the competency required to apply police investigation processes in accordance with jurisdictional law, policies and procedures.

VBQU379 Apply policing principles and practices in a justice environment

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to identify and apply the structure, function and role of policing in the criminal justice community. It also includes the investigation and implementation of appropriate policing strategies and processes to deal with drugs and intoxicated persons, cultural diversity; and work with people with special needs and psychological disorders.

VBQM390 Criminal law in a justice environment

The purpose of this module is to enable students to develop an in-depth knowledge of aspects of criminal law relevant to a person working in the justice field.

VBQM391 Criminology

The aim of this module is to introduce students to the study of crime, substantive areas of offending behaviour, and the implications of criminological knowledge for policy formulation and crime prevention strategy.

VBQU380 Apply psychological concepts and principles within a justice environment

This unit covers the knowledge and skills required to analyse the psychotherapies relevant to identify and address issues related to offenders and victims within the criminal justice system.

It also includes the skills and knowledge required to implement counselling strategies and processes evaluate psychological disorders prevalent amongst the offender population and rehabilitate and divert the client group from reoffending.

VBQU381 Work with culturally diverse clients in a justice environment

This unit provides the knowledge on the origins and nature of Australia’s multicultural society and the skills to work with culturally diverse clients, and develop attitudinal change and empathy with multiculturalism.

CHCCM4B Promote high quality case management

Disseminating information and providing advice on practice issues relating to case management.

BSBMGT602A Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans

This unit covers the second stage of the strategic planning process. It involves confirmation of strategic direction, the development of detailed objectives and strategies, and the creation of measures and criteria to evaluate progress towards those objectives.
